For Gurarpan and her classmates at Undurba State School in Murrumba Downs, the session was an opportunity to explore emotional wellbeing, practise assertive communication and learn strategies to foster friendships.
But for Gurarpan, the lessons went beyond the classroom.
“It was amazing to learn new things and discover new ideas,” Gurarpan says.
“This experience gave me more hope, confidence and encouragement. I learned that I should never give up, even when something is difficult.
I should keep trying, believe in myself, and always do my best.”
The beautiful drawing Gurarpan created after her Life Ed session captures some of the messages she took away – values her parents are proud to see her putting into practice.
Gurarpan’s father, Sukhjeet, says his daughter loved discovering new ideas and taking part in Life Ed’s interactive activities. Most importantly, she came away with a stronger understanding of kindness, respect and making positive choices.
“She learned that we can be kind by sharing, helping others, listening, including everyone, using kind words and respecting other people’s feelings.
The message that stayed with her was to believe in herself, make positive choices and keep trying.”
For Sukhjeet, seeing his daughter develop these skills has been a proud moment.
“As a parent, it makes me very proud and happy to see her developing these skills. It shows that she is becoming more confident, caring, respectful and understanding towards others.
These skills will help her build positive and healthy relationships as she grows.”
As the Term 3 winners of Life Ed Queensland’s Harold’s Family Competition, the family was thrilled to receive a $1000 Woolworths Gift Card.
“I was extremely excited and proud to see her receive a prize,” Sukhjeet says.
“It was a wonderful achievement for her, and seeing her happiness and excitement made me very proud. These achievements have encouraged her to keep learning, believe in herself and always try her best.”
For Gurarpan, the prize is a wonderful reward – but the lessons she took away from her Life Ed experience are something she can carry with her well beyond the classroom.
