Healthy Harold helps Queensland’s littlest learners thrive

With the school year up and running, we’re thrilled to launch a new partnership with early childhood provider Edge Early Learning, which sets a new benchmark for wellbeing education in early years education.

From January 2026, every Edge Early Learning centre across Queensland will take part in Healthy Harold’s Little Learners – a comprehensive wellbeing, safety and school readiness program designed for preschoolers.

Life Ed Queensland CEO Taryn Black said the program would empower children with vital, age-appropriate skills and strategies, while making learning fun and memorable.

“Healthy Harold has been supporting children’s safety and wellbeing for more than 40 years, and what makes this partnership with Edge unique is the way the program will be integrated into the daily experience of children and educators – not as a single visit, but as a year-long journey of emotional growth, protective behaviours and family connection,”  Ms Black said.

Building wellbeing from the start

Through a sequence of engaging incursions, classroom lessons, educator professional development and family resources, the program helps children build emotional literacy, understand body safety, develop healthy routines and gain confidence for school.

Each term, children explore a key theme:

  • Big Feelings – learning to recognise and manage emotions
  • Boundaries – consent, personal safety and respect for others
  • Balance – healthy habits and early digital safety
  • Big School! – independence and social readiness for transition to school

A whole-centre commitment to learning and safety

Edge Early Learning is the first early education provider in Queensland to adopt the Little Learners program as a structured, curriculum-aligned initiative across all centres. Edge’s Head of Quality, Safety and Wellbeing, Kylie Warren-Wright, said the partnership strengthened Edge’s long-standing commitment to whole-child development.

“Developing emotional literacy in early childhood is the foundation for lifelong success. When children learn to identify their feelings, they build resilience and confidence to navigate school situations,” Ms Warren-Wright said.

“Coupled with explicit teaching around body safety, consent and protective behaviours, these skills empower children to understand personal boundaries, respect others and seek help when needed. Embedding these concepts early supports healthy relationships and helps children make safe, informed choices as they grow.”

Partnering for positive change

The partnership between Life Ed Queensland and Edge incorporates:

  • 18 curriculum-aligned lesson plans linked to the Early Years Learning Framework
  • Professional development for educators, including face-to-face training and webinars
  • Family engagement tools, such as take-home activities, parent sessions and Little Learner Passports
  • Harold take-home packs, complete with a backpack, plush Harold and mindfulness colouring book

This co-designed model build’s on Edge’s Teach A Rainbow curriculum and brings everyone together – children, educators and families – in one connected learning journey.

We can’t wait to visit more centres – and see more smiling faces, as our Little Learners program rolls out across Queensland – supporting educators, families and children with the skills to feel ready for the journey ahead.
