The Hon. Mark Bailey drops in on Graceville State School to become a Life Ed ambassador

The children at Graceville State School in Brisbane put on their biggest smiles to welcome Minister for Transport and Main Roads, the Hon. Mark Bailey last week when he visited the school to become an official Life Education ambassador.

The Minister, and Member for Miller, spent time with Year 1 students who attended the Ready, Steady, Go module – learning about the benefits of physical activity; safety strategies in different environments; how our body reacts in new situations; and what the body needs to be healthy including a nutritious diet, water and sleep.

Minister Bailey said he was impressed with the Life Education program and its impact over three decades, acknowledging that mascot Healthy Harold resonated with children throughout Queensland and enabled educators to impart important messages about making safe and healthy choices for life.

Year 1 students loved their learning session with educator Michele and showed how much they’ve learned about choosing healthy ‘every day’ foods compared to less healthy ‘sometimes’ foods.

The Life Education sessions followed an Active School Travel event before school, with Graceville Primary students encouraged to walk, or ride a bike or scooter to school promote a healthier school community and a cleaner environment.

Great to see the kids at Graceville Primary embracing some of Life Education’s messages about staying fit, and active and healthy.
