This initiative marks a significant step forward in strengthening child safety practices across the Redlands basketball community.
Earlier this year, RedCity Roar received significant funding from the QFCC to enhance the capacity of local clubs and administrators in upholding child safeguarding responsibilities.
With this funding, RedCity has engaged Life Ed Queensland as expert consultants to help roll out the program over the next nine months.
The project aims to translate the Child Safe Standards and Universal Principle into practical, sport-specific strategies that can be scaled across community basketball organisations. Through this initiative, RedCity Roar will empower clubs to embed child safety into every aspect of their operations.
By creating flexible, community-driven solutions, this project will help our affiliated clubs grow their safeguarding maturity and embed sustainable, culturally safe practices across the Redlands basketball sector.
Chris Angus, General Manager for RedCity Roar was excited about this new partnership and the significance of this project:
“It’s great to commence this important partnership with Life Education Queensland to assist us in supporting and improving our Child Safeguarding practices and knowledge within our association.
“It means we can create the safest and most enjoyable space possible for the thousands of juniors who have connections with RedCity basketball.
“To create this partnership with a trusted organisation such as Life Ed Queensland, highlights our commitment to delivering this project at the highest standards that will enable us to engage in, and in some cases, introduce the significant child safe standards and principles to our clubs and administrators, many of whom are volunteers.”
Taryn Black, CEO of Life Ed Queensland said the organisation is proud to support RedCity Roar in this vital initiative:
“As a child-safe organisation, the health, safety and protection of children is at the heart of everything we do.
“Supporting sporting clubs like RedCity Roar is a natural extension of our mission to help children thrive—physically, emotionally and socially.
“We’re proud to stand alongside parents, coaches and volunteers to build environments where every child feels safe, respected and empowered to be their best.”
The Child Safeguarding Project will officially commence in early September with a self-assessment for all RedCity’s affiliated clubs, helping identify gaps and tailor training to meet the unique needs of each organisation.
RedCity Roar thanks Life Ed Queensland for their partnership and the QFCC for funding this important initiative to strengthen child safety across the Redlands basketball sector.

The QFCC exists to ensure Queensland’s children and young people are loved, respected and have their rights upheld. They influence systemic change that improves the safety and wellbeing of Queensland’s children and their families.
They do this by assessing the child protection system’s performance, collaborating for impact, and amplifying the voices of Queensland’s children and their families.
They do this in six ways:
