Much-loved Life Education mascot Healthy Harold has sprung into life in animated form after Life Education Queensland partnered with TAFE Queensland on an exciting new 3D animation project.
Life Education joined forces with Coomera TAFE creative campus screen and media students who spent countless hours modelling the 3D animation of Harold as part of their final assessment in an interactive digital media course.
Life Education’s life-sized Healthy Harold mascot joined CEO Michael Fawsitt, TAFE Queensland GM on the Gold Coast Karen Dickinson, the screen and media students, and local TV media, for the unveiling of the new 3D Harold.
Life Education Queensland CEO Michael Fawsitt said the partnership was a win-win for TAFE Queensland and the charity.
“We couldn’t be happier with the result – a delightful 3D animated Harold that will help schools, students and parents navigate our online learning platform – the Life Education Hub, designed to support our face-to-face program in schools,” Mr Fawsitt said.
“To see the skill, passion and talent the TAFE students brought to the Harold animation project was inspiring, and it’s great that we have been able to offer them some real-world experience in animation design and benefit as a charity too.”
TAFE student, Maddison Davis, 20, said it was great experience animating such an iconic mascot.
“To be able to gain experience working with a real-world client was exciting, and to contribute to something that is so pivotal to the early learning of the younger generations was extremely rewarding.
“The best part of the project for me was getting to work as a team with my peers and seeing everyone’s hard work come together to create something, we can all be proud of.”
Fellow student Roger Jarvis enjoyed putting his interactive digital media learning into practice.
“The skills we learnt throughout the course armed us with everything we needed to get the job done. It was really cool knowing that what I did gave Harold personality and life.”
TAFE Queensland General Manager on the Gold Coast, Karen Dickinson said it was fantastic to collaborate with Life Education on the animation project.
“Life Education’s dedication to bringing a number of important topics into our schools is to be commended and it is an absolute joy to see TAFE Queensland’s screen and media students enriching their learning experience by putting their skills into practice on this real-world project,” Ms Dickinson said.
“Our students have done an amazing job animating Healthy Harold and I am sure they are proud to leave their mark on such an iconic childhood mascot.”
