As thousands of Queensland students returned to face-to-face learning, there was a familiar figure at the Burleigh Heads State School gates to welcome children back to the classroom.
Life Education mascot Healthy Harold the giraffe was on hand to greet delighted students as they arrived back after weeks of at-home learning.
Harold was joined by Gold Coast-based educator Sue, the pair reminding kids about social distancing with a friendly elbow bump.
Harold’s healthy tips
“Harold has recently starred in a series of fun videos showing kids how to keep fit and active during the Coronavirus, how to practise safe hand washing, how to sneeze and cough safely to stop the spread of germs, and of course, how to observe physical distancing,” Sue said.
“We thought it would be great to have Harold welcome kids back to school and put a smile on their faces as they arrived.”
Life Education back in schools
Life Education Queensland CEO Michael Fawsitt told Channel 7 and 9 News Gold Coast, that it was great to see children heading back to the classroom after an anxious time, and schools around the state were excited to be able to welcome the Life Education program back for the remainder of term two and beyond.
“Due to COVID-19, our educators will be teaching in regular classrooms for the time-being instead of our familiar mobile learning centres, but the important messages around health and safety, nutrition, and social and emotional learning will be as relevant as ever.
“Schools have told us that the isolation and financial stress caused by the pandemic have created anxiety, and Life Education has a big role to play in supporting parents, teachers and children through this difficult time.”
Vital messages
One thing was clear from chatting with Burleigh Heads State School students from years 4 – 6, the health and safety messages learned through the Life Education program have a long and lasting impact on children’s lives.
Thank you, Burleigh Heads State School for supporting the Life Education program, and for making us feel so welcome.
