Children thrive with our specialist health and wellbeing education
Reaching children in almost every corner of the state, Life Ed Queensland achieved huge impact in 2023. Across Queensland, 845 primary schools and preschools engaged with our program, and 179,361 students participated in Life Education modules. We also reached 8,889 teachers.
Making the Life Ed program accessible to children in First Nations communities has been a key part of our program mission for many years. Access to specialist health and wellbeing education is often limited in remote communities, yet this is where education and support is often needed most. We want to help close that gap. In regions like Doomadgee, Palm Island and Woorabinda, Life Ed is embraced by students, teachers and community year after year… and the impact of our messages is long lasting.
Last year, a record number of young people participated in Life Ed Queensland’s groundbreaking Talk About It program – the largest relationships and sexual health education program in Queensland schools. Our specialist TAI educators help young people navigate puberty in a way that is supportive, age-appropriate, fun and welcoming. The program is aligned to elements of the Australian Health and Physical Education curriculum and schools tell us Talk About It is essential to their curriculum … promoting confidence and important conversations.
Life Ed Queensland’s award-winning Healthy Eats program is substantially boosting fruit and vegetable consumption in primary school aged children. Working closely with schools in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and in rural and regional areas of Queensland, Healthy Eats is helping to transform whole school food environments. With one in four Queensland children between 2 and 17 living with obesity or overweight, this innovative program is making a big difference.
Sadly, one in five Year 4 students experiences bullying on a weekly basis and the mental health impacts can be devastating. Helping children understand how to positively relate to others as they grow up is a key focus of the Life Ed program. Our new teacher-led Harold’s Kind Classrooms works with schools to empower Years 3 and 4 students with valuable social and emotional skills to address bullying and build resilience. Emphasising the positive with a strengths-based approach, the program fosters kindness, empathy, compassion and student leadership.
The Life Ed program is renowned for being fun, educational and empowering. Giving children a voice is an important part of our mission, so that we not only understand what children want and need to learn more about, but also gain insight into how the Life Ed program has benefited them. Our team was truly inspired to engage with students from Pimpama State School as part of a Youth Advisory Project.
Life Ed Queensland is proud to partner with the renowned Triple P – Positive Parenting Program which has helped more than four million children worldwide. Several of our educators are trained to deliver Triple P at Queensland schools, with the program supporting families by enabling parents and carers to raise healthier, more resilient kids. We offer Triple P’s Raising Resilient Children seminar and Fear-Less, a program which gives parents a variety of tools to help young people manage anxiety.

This year, Life Ed Queensland’s incredibly generous supporters contributed a total of $2,085,703 to support our work with children. Through our Kids Protect Team, thousands of supporters from all walks of life make a regular donation to our program. Their support is vital. It allows us to continue to innovate with our program content, as well as reach children across Queensland, even those in remote parts of the state where kids often lack access to important health and safety education.

We would like to acknowledge the generous support of our major partner, Queensland Health. Their support has been instrumental in enabling Life Ed Queensland to expand our services throughout the state, enabling tens of thousands more Queensland children to gain access to vital health education.
We are so fortunate to have the Hon. Rob Borbidge AO and Dr Anthony Lynham FRCS Ed. as our Life Ed Queensland patrons. For many years, they have supported and advocated for Life Ed’s work with children, bringing a wealth of experience in government, health and legislation, and on Boards and advisory groups.

Each term, parents share their inspirational feedback about the Life Ed program. Parents say the valuable messages, knowledge and strategies children gain from Life Ed, instill positive behaviours and choices which have a powerful impact on the whole family.
Consent
As a solo parent, Katie says she feels the pressure to try to juggle it all and make sure she is teaching her son Jacob everything he needs to know. After a traumatic family experience, she’s glad Life Ed is there to help reinforce the right messages about respectful relationships, cyberbullying and consent.
Cybersafety
Gaming addiction, online grooming, online bullying and too much screen time… it’s a lot for parents to navigate in our always-on digital world. Busy father-of-four, Andrew is grateful the Life Ed program helped his son Murphy gain tools to stay cybersafe and aware, and learn how to balance his screen time with healthy green time.
Social and emotional wellbeing
From understanding legal and illegal drugs, to navigating bullying, and changing friendships, Sofia’s mum Alex says the Life Ed program has helped her daughter in so many important ways.
