1. Describe a typical day as a Life Education Queensland educator.

A typical day working with Harold is go, go, go! Seeing three to four classes each day requires both Harold and I to bring a lot of energy with us into schools to create a memorable experience for students. For this reason, Harold and I both make sure we always have a good night’s sleep and bring lots of healthy food to fuel us throughout our day.

Harold is a bit of a superstar in Queensland schools, so in a typical day, as we move around the school, we have many excited students approaching us, asking after Harold and wanting to know what he is doing. I think seeing Harold and Life Education is something many children look forward to each year, so bringing Harold into the classroom brings a lot of energy and excitement to the learning session.

2. What is the best thing about your job?

I truly believe my job to be the best job in the world. One of the most rewarding parts of my role is having children approach me after their session to share something they have put into practice based on what they learned. Maybe they are excited to show me their healthy lunch, or they let me know they had a stranger try to add them on social media and they did not accept them as a friend. It feels wonderful to know, that after the session, many children feel empowered to make safe and healthy choices.

3. What did you do before joining Life Education?

Before Life Education, I was a primary school teacher, and spent some time as a youth worker in residential care. I knew I wanted to work in a role where I could have a positive impact on young people, so when the opportunity came up to work with Life Education, I knew I could not pass it up!

4. What is your goal with each Life Education session?

My goal is to create a safe environment where students feel happy, engaged and heard. When I am able to set up this type of environment, I believe this allows memorable learning to happen.

5. What do you like to do in your spare time?

At the moment, my favourite pastime is gardening. I have quite a crop of tomatoes and zucchinis, and the roses are in full bloom. Looking forward to lots of fresh veggies throughout Summer!
